According to Lawyer Andrews Adugu, There is no law or custom which requires that after marriage you must change your surname to your husband’s surname.

He further added that, Mrs simply means someone’s wife. So no matter the kind of marriage type you perform, you can still be called a Mrs without any change of name.

There are benefits of changing your name as a woman. It makes processes easier if you want to apply for visa to travel with your husband outside the country.

Discuss name change with your fiancé or fiancée and get an understanding before you marry. To avoid all this name change misunderstanding, Lawyer Andrews Adugu advice.
